            Feb. 2

Happy groundhog day to all of you out there. Looks like 6 more weeks of winter. Details are out about the beach acess permits and all the crap the NPS are throwing at us. You can go to Island Free Press.com and get the information you will need to know. A nice day here with a temperature of 65 degrees and winds out of the West at 10 to 15 mph. Tomorrow will be cooler with a temperature of 49 degrees and a cool breeze out of the North at 10 to 15 mph. Reports of a few speckled trout and flounder being caught mostly at ramp 55. Stop in at Dillon's Corner for all of your fishing needs. Have a great day and even better tomorrow.                    Larry

              JAN. 26
What a beautiful day we have had here today with a temperature of 68 degrees and very mild winds. Tomorrow looks like it will be warm also with more winds. The temperature is calling for 64 degrees and winds out of the SW at 15 to 20 mph. Still waiting for the rock fish to show up and start some excitement for some time to come. Have only heard of a few speckled trout being caught up and down the surf. Stop in and see us here at Dillon's Corner for your fishing needs. Have a great day and even better tomorrow.          Larry

Jan.23,
Temps are in the mid 60's today .Tonight calling for rain. There are still a few scattered trout being caught.Yesterday I heard there were a few stripers caught at the new inlet. But it's pretty quiet around here this time of year.

         Jan. 21st
Saturday 3:00 P. M. At the present we have a blowing rain and gusting winds. The temperature is actually a nice 68 degrees with winds out of the SW at 20 to 30 mph. Tomorrow looks like the winds will slow but it will be a little cooler with a temperature of 57 degrees and winds out of the NE at 10 to 15 mph. We have had decent fishing days lately but the bite has been slow with only speckled trout reported being caught. I think the speck bite will continue as long as the water temp stays in the 50's and that looks favorable for some time. We are still waiting for information to come out about the beach driving permits, will let you know as soon as we hear something. Stop in and see us here at Dillon's Corner for bait and tackle along with some awesome shopping. Tomorrow looks like a great day for the football playoffs to determine who will make it to the Super Bowl, bring it on. Have a great day and even better tomorrow.                Larry

Jan 20,  No reports yet today but looks like a fairly good day to go trout fishing.  Currently 53 degrees and winds ne at 9 mph.
Jan 18th, Had a fisherman just come in looking for bait which at this time of the year is scarce. I told him about PJ Williams catching specs on Gulp Nuclear Chicken on ramp 34 in Avon. He said that last evening Kevin out near the point caught a spec and a puppy drum. There are fish here you just have to work to get them. Weather today is overcast damp but the temp is in the fifties, no telling what tomorrow will bring.
We are here anytime you need something and as soon as we find out we will update you on the new driving on the beach will be and what is required from you.I know some of you folks already have permits in your state. If these are permits to drive on a National Seashore they should be honored on all National seashores, but that i9s my opinion and as you know everyone has one.
Give us a holler if you need something. We'll be glad to build it for you or mail you something out. Have a great day

Jan. 16,
Today temps have stayed around 44 degrees with a 6 mph wind. Tomorrow temps are suppose to reach 65 degrees with thunder storms in the evening. Garland  came in today and said he pulled nets all day and only caught 3 fish. That's how slow the fishing has been. We can see the gannets working just out of reach.

Jan 15 th, No fish, cold and blowing good day for football. Just wanted to let you know that we have the 2012 tide charts in. We also have the creel limits listed inside. If you would like one send us a self addressed stamped envelope. We will try to keep you updated on the particulars on getting your beach driving permit.

Not a lot of fish caught today with winds gusting over 40 mph. The temperature today was a nice 60 degrees with wind out of the WSW at 20 to 30 mph and gusting higher. Tomorrow looks like it will be a cool 46 degrees with winds out of the WSW at 15 to 20 mph. Speckled trout are still around if you can find the right hole. Stop by Dillon's Corner for your fishing and tackle needs we will enjoy helping you in any way we can. Have a nice day and even better tomorrow.                 Larry

Jan. 10,

Jan.9,
Today was rain for the morning and then again in the evening. Not a lot going on right now. I have heard of dog sharks being caught along with a few skate. That's about all that's going on here today.Temperatures  were in the mid 50's today and should reach 60 mid week.

          Jan. 7th
The only fishing reports I have heard today are catches of speckled trout, puppy drum, small blues and flounder mostly from Buxton to the Avon pier.             Jan. 5th
A nice sunny day here overall with mild winds out of the NE at 5 to 10 mph and a temperature of 49 degrees. Tomorrow is going to be an awesome day with a temperature of 60 degrees and wind out of the WSW in the morning changing to the SW all at 5 to 10 mph. Temperatures for the weekend are really looking good with a warm front starting tomorrow and staying around for some time. So come on down and catch some of these speckled trout and striped bass along with some blue fish. Reports of striped bass and big blues being caught at Oregon Inlet is a great sign for things to come. Some speckled trout have been caught up and down the surf but no reports of any thing at this time. Stop by and see us here at Dillon's Corner for your choice of baits and tackle. Have a great day and even better tomorrow.   Larry

Jan. 4,
This morning the temperature was 29 degrees with a North wind blowing 10 to 15 mph. Now its 36 degrees and that where its going to stay tonight.Tomorrow high 51. There's not a lot going on now. I talk to a few guys that fished today, they all said they caught nothing. But tomorrows a new day we will try again.

Jan 3,  Big blues have hit Oregon inlet and hopefully the cold weather will bring them our way and there were a bunch of seagulls with gannets mixed in.  For the last 4 days Kevin has caught some keeper trout up and down the beach.
Jan 3rd, Wow what a difference in temp it is 34 today and the wind is gusting to 25 mph Right chilly. On Sunday I may have mentioned that thousands of gulls were working Oregon Inlet. Later that day there were stripers hitting on anything you threw off the beach, the folks went down the next day and they caught nothing so hopefully the fish are on the way down to us. With this cold spell it will get our water temp down and that will help. Come on down or at least call.

Oct.19th,  If you fish today you have to love it. It is pouring down and has been all night. The good news it is going to stop and be a beautiful weekend. As you read yesterday, there was a great deal of drum on the point It reminded of a time several years ago when people kept calling me at here at work telling me how many drum they were catching but I was stuck here, finally at 2 I got to leave here and go to the point. It was crazy but the drum were still there. Caught one right away and 30 minutes later had another on. They would come in then would seem to circle out and about 20-30minutes later come back through. Snuffy Smith said that was very similar to what went on yesterday. The wind shifted to the SW and that is what we needed to get those fish in here. So make your plans to come down if you need a place to stay a couple of days call 800-995-0023 Outer Banks Motel I have some beach cottage they rent for me. Have a great day I look forward to seeing you.

It seems now when they dump a load of sand it washes away just as quick.
Remember we can build you a custom rod now so when you come down it will be here waiting for you.Our good drum and striper fishing is going to be here soon so get yourself prepared. Give us a call if you need anything 252-995-5083

Thanks to all of my friends that sent the over two hundred pair of shoes down for the folks in the tri villages.

Sept. 13, Good news is that folks can come back on Sept 15th but only by a ferry from Swan Quarter or one from Cedar Island. They also say the road may be done by Oct 1st.

You can not stay in the villages of Rodanthe Waves or Salvo you have to have places in Avon, Buxton, Frisco or Hatteras

We have sey up a free market for the folks of the tri villages so if you have in clothes shoes or anything soaps detergents mosquito spray or things that folks can use you can drop it off here at Dillons Corner and I will be sure it gets to the free market in Salvo.

By the wat spanish fishing on the point here in Buxton is as good as it gets. There are lots of keeper drum in the flats and also in the inlet.
Come on down and help boost this economy.

The weather has been pretty nice here since Irene left her mark on the Island. Today the temperatuire made it up to 86 degrees with a SW wind at 5 to 10 mph. Tomorrow looks like it will be 85 dehgrees with a ESE wind early then SE all at 5 to 10 mph. The breaches are in the process of repair, how long it will take is unknown. Ferry service is from Stumpy Point to Rodanthe and people trying to get on the Island may be waiting for some time with backup. Irene left a lot of damage mostly in Avon and the tri-villages. A lot of familys were forced out of their homes from the intense flooding, making them unliveable. We are now up to full power and have cell phone service. Clean up will take some time from all the destruction Irene left behind. Fishing has been second to last on most peoples list, but did get a report that puppy drum and specks are being caught. The ground has been drying up nicely with plenty of sun and a nice breeze daily. Two homes in Rodanthe have given way to the ocean and another burned to the ground. It was a rough week when Irene hit with a earthquake and water spout to boot. I know now how Gilligan must have felt being stranded on a Island. The American Red Cross and FEMA have been busy here and doing a great job. Thanks to everyone who has pitched in to help with meals and cleanup. There are many things to report and you can go to Island Free Press.com to get a update. Have a great day and even better tomorrow.                      Larry

August 31,
We finally have our internet back. Here's what I know, there is breach between Oregon Inlet and Rodanthe. So they are sending ferry's from Stumpy Point to Rodanthe. There is also a patch of hwy out on Ocracoke.Buxton faired well. But other villages weren't so lucky and our thoughts and prayers go out to them.We are open for business from 8:00 am til 7:00 pm. until things get back to normal or as close as can be to normal.

Aug 26th, Here we are waiting for Irene. Hopefully everyone in its path will remain safe. I have friends that live down east that I hope are ready for this storm We hear that it is going to go in near Morehead and then move up the sound which will put trhe strongest winds on our side which is not good but hopefully we will be here Sunday trying to clean up the mess. Please pray for all the folks in the path of this storm and hopefully we will get back to the fishing and the reports.

love you all

Please everyone we need your help, together we can make a difference !  Contact Senator Kay Hagan at 202-224-6342 and tell her to open the point, NO BIRDS NESTING. Here is a sample that will help you make your point when you make contact with her.
Dear Senator, as a ( visitor or resident ) I'm asking you to show me the SCIENCE behind the outrageous buffers at the Cape Hatteras National Recreational Seashore. Audubon drew up these huge non-science buffers. They are closing traditional and cultural areas of the beach that were used for fishing, shelling, birding and recreation. A large majority of voters feel you are not doing very much to help our
N. C. beaches !!!!! It's time YOU REACT OR RESIGN!!!!
PS, Talk nice but let them know you have had it !!!!

Tomorrow looks to be better with a temperature of 63 degrees and winds in our favor out of the SSW at 10 to 15 mph. It should bring in a few sea mullet and blowtoads hopefully. Stay in touch and we will keep you posted on the surf fishing bite. Stop by and see us at Dillon's Corner for all the fresh bait and fishing tackle you will need. Have a great day and even better tomorrow.                               Larry

Today turned out to be a very nice day, but a little windy. The temperature made it up to 69 degrees with winds out of the NE at 15 to 20 mph. Tomorrow will be a bit cool with a temperature of 52 degrees and wind out of the NNE at 15 to 20 mph. Fishing is starting to pick up slowly with a few sea mullet, blues and puppy drum being caught. The point was closed yesterday by the NPS so that means the games have started to take place here again this year. All of the ramps are open but you can't get to the point, what a joke so early in the year. Make sure you stop by Dillon's Corner for fresh bait and a great selection of tackle, along with great shopping. Have a great day and even better tomorrow.                                    Larry

Fishing has been pretty slow with only a few sea mullet and sharks being caught. All of the ramps are open and will be until the plovers and turtles start nesting. When that happens only those ramps will close others will be available to you. We never know what the Park Service has in mind except they try to rule all of our beaches to show there power. So do not give up the faith, fishing will always be great here. Let's all hang in there and get a grip on what is supposed to belong to everyone anyway. The weather here today has been pretty nice with a temperature of 65 degrees, cloudy and a SE breeze at 5 to 10 mph. Tomorrow looks like the winds will pick up out of the south 20 to 25 mph and a temperature of 62 degrees. Make sure you stop by Dillon's Corner for all of your fishing needs. Have a great day and even better tomorrow.                                 Larry

There's not alot going on right  now. I haven't heard of any fish being caught. But yesterday when I was working in one of Ollies cottages I could see about a thousand birds working just past the sand bar near the jetty's. So that means there is bait in the water. There were a few stiper caught a few days ago at Oregon inlet not much else going on.

Not a lot to report fishing wise, I did have a few fisherman come in but had no luck on the surf. Some stripers are still being caught out of Oregon Inlet and thats about it. The weather here today was messy with plenty of rain. The temperature made it up to 59 degrees with a SW wind at 10 mph. Tomorrow looks like the rain will end and be mostly sunny with a temperature of 52 degrees and a NNW wind at 10 to 15 mph. We have fresh bait and everything you will need to catch that big one. Again have a great Super Bowl Sunday and even better Monday.                                  Larry

Jan 23, Here are a few pics of DC from yesterdays snow. We got about 5 inches. It was a nice storm winds had the snow almost horizontal. Here in Buxton it has the town shutdown. Everyone kept seeing a roadgrader with the blade up I dont believe that though but you never know Maybe we wanted to be like New York. Have a great day and dont forget we will drop ship and we are still making our custom rods 252-995-5083
This is our deep snow so far They are calling for one inch here in Buxton but so far I see no chains on the tires. ha The fish are not cooperating but this cold spell may get them moving this way and hopefully to the beach. I guess most of you have seen the pics. or have heard of the striper kill at Oregon Inlet. If not Google oregon Inlet fish kill. What is a shame our govt will not let us salvage this fish, which would be good for the food pantries. ollie
Jan. 19,
Well there was a disturbing video on you tube of thousands of stiped bass floating, killed by trawlers culling their catch, and throwing the smaller ones back even though they were over the size limit of 28 inches. Comercial fisherman can keep 50 striped bass. You can see the video on YOU TUBE. Tght lines andgood luck!

Not much to report on the fishing front except for stripers still being caught in numbers out of Oregon Inlet. Yesterday Carl Berg and myself went out of Oregon Inlet on the boat called the Hooker and we caught 15 stripers all together. We had to go all the way to Southern Shores to find them and there we did have a field day. We had fish in the 40 pound range to 24 pounds. Will have a picture to show you in my next fishing report along with more information about the trip coming up on Saturday. It was a awesome day on the water for the whole crew. The water temperature is now 44 degrees and will more than likely stay close to that for a while. Today it has been raining with lots of fog around. Tomorrow looks like more of the same. Come by Dillon's Corner and see us for all you will need for that fishing adventure. Have a great day and even better tomorrow.       Larry

       Jan. 15
The weather is nice here today with a temperature of 50 degrees and calm winds. Tomorrow looks nice as well with a temperature of 49 degrees and winds out of the NW at 10 to 15 mph. On the fishing front all I have heard is that the Charters out of Oregon Inlet are catching limits each time out. I plan to make a Charter tomorrow or Monday out of Oregon Inlet and will let you know how it turned out. I have seen a lot of sharks washing up on the beach around the point and south beach. It's been a long winter all ready and we can only welcome better conditions as soon as possible. Stay in touch and keep the faith. When you do make it here stop and see us at Dillon's Corner for all the fishing supplies you will need. Have a nice day and even better tomorrow.                                     Larry

Jan 7th,Here in Buxton there have been some puppy drum by Frisco pier the last few days. Lots of them have been snagged. But it means the fish are around. The good news is there are plenty of stripers off shore and At Oregon Inlet especially. On wed the state record might have been broken with a 63 pounder and thur. a 64 pounder was caught. Some nice fish. One of our buddies hust text us he had fifteen stripers in 20 minutes caught right in the inlet by the bridge. There is a striper tournament going on which means a few good cash prizes may be had. If you can get down here it would be a good chance on getting a nice fish. On the right here is Sonny Quidley with stripers they caught yesterday. They had their limit and released quite a few.
We are going to Raleigh this week to visit the Henrys Tackle show to view some new items and hopefully see some of you there. Good luck

Jan. 4,
Happy New Year to every one. There are still some puppy drum being caught on the south beach.Kevin McCabe said he's caught a couple every day for the past eight days. I talked to a
net fisherman and he said there is a big school of striper about three miles off the beach in Buxton. So we just might get lucky this year if they move in toward the beach. Haven't heard much else. Tight lines and Good luck!
